Natural Acne Cures

I believe Apple Cider Vinegar is the best of all natural acne cures and you probably have some in your kitchen cabinet right now.

If you look at what causes acne you will understand why vinegar is so effective.

Acne starts when

  • the pores of your skin get clogged by dirt, oil or sebum
  • bacteria in your skin take advantage of the new conditions and grow out of control
  • other types of bacteria join in producing pimples filled with pus

There are three steps you need to follow in the treatment of acne when it breaks out on your skin.

  • Kill the Bacteria Most people will take antibiotics internally or externally to accomplish this. Antibiotics will work swiftly and you will notice improvement in a very short time frame. Unfortunately it is a temporary cure which must be repeated at the next outbreak. The concern here is that the bacteria may eventually build a resistance to the antibiotic and return with greater strength. There is also the matter of side effects including the indiscriminate killing of good bacteria in your system.
  • Remove the oil from your skin Again many people will resort to over the counter drugs or expensive toners to accomplish this. Look for products containing Vitamin A.
  • Remove the dead skin cells Most acne products used contain salicylic acid which is very effective at peeling away the top layer of skin cells.

Although this is partially true, the antiseptic properties of vinegar are not powerful enough to accomplish this alone. Yes it should inhibit the growth of bacteria but probably not enough to make an appreciable difference in your acne.

This is not the quality that makes ACV one of the best natural acne cures in your home.

Then What DOES Vinegar Do?

If you have browsed this site extensively you will have noticed that I continuously “preach” that your body has the ability to heal itself once you:

  • provide it with the nourishment it needs to do it’s job
  • remove any obstacles that impede its natural function

Unfiltered raw apple cider vinegar, with the mother, is rich in vitamins and minerals including vitamins A and E which, as you know, are used in many natural acne cures as well as general skin care products. These nutrients, taken both internally and externally, support your body in developing and maintaining clear healthy skin.

Meanwhile, the acid content (both acetic acid and alpha-hydroxy acids) applied externally to the skin, is hard at work dissolving the oil and sebum that is clogging your pores. Once your pores are clear the bacteria is exposed to an oxygen rich environment where it cannot thrive.

Bonus

Aside from being one of the truly great natural acne cures, drinking 2 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar in a glass of water twice a day will provide additional skin care benefits:

  • The acids in ACV help your skin renew itself thereby reducing the signs of aging and acne scars
  • exposure to toxins in the environment may have been the root cause of your acne; ACV will also work as a detox drink

Note: It will take a few days to remove the toxins so you may find your skin will get worse before any improvement is noticed.

Skin Toner Recipe

In order to keep healthy skin pimple free I suggest you add honey to vinegar and water for an exceptional Skin Toner Recipe.

How To Apply ACV

Vinegar should be applied full strength as a spot treatment directly on top of your pimples using a Q-tip. (Avoid using it at full strength all over your face as it may cause irritation.)

What Are The Side Effects?

Side effects are mainly the result of the concentration used. ACV applied at full strength to your skin may cause irritation. This is why I said to dab it directly on your pimples rather than spreading it all over your face.

Extended internal use of high concentrated ACV may wear away at the enamel of your teeth. To avoid this rinse your mouth with clear water after consuming.
